
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The life of former Juneau Police Chief Mike Gelston will be remembered during a celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Raven Shelter at Auke Rec.
Gelston passed away on Dec. 31 following an illness according to a post on the Juneau Police Department’s website.
According to the family, he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in late 2019.
Gelston was hired as a police officer in Juneau in June 1968.
He held many positions and rose through the ranks to become chief in 1985. He retired in July 1993.
